To clarifiy, running 4x4 is bad on pavement because it wont let your front and rear spin at a different rate. Full time 4 gives your front and rear power, but lets them spin at a different rate making turning and handling on the road much nicer and much less wear on parts.

And any 4x4 is prone to what you just said unless it has a locker, or two(front and rear). Full time 4 is MOSTLY used for on road during inclement weather(rain, snow, ice) to aid in traction, 4x4 is typically used offroad. This Tcase allows you to do either.

Well yes, that is a disadvantage, but you don't use AWD offroad just like you wouldn't use 2wd offroad.

The 242 has all the same options as the 231 plus the available full time 4wd. So basically, if your driving on dry roads and the weather is nice and its just an ordinary, average day, you can have it in 2wd so it won't waste gas. If its raining or snowing, you can put it in full time 4 wheel drive and drive on the pavement without worrying about lighting up the rear tires or binding up the drivetrain. When you want to take it off road, you can put it in 4Hi or 4Lo.

Lol, that's what neutral.... oh wait!! :P

Thats why this truck will be doing the towing, instead of getting towed. Actually, when I had to get my truck towed back when the tranny cooler line split, I demanded that AAA send a rollback. Anybody who ever has to tow a 4x4 should do the same. But if thats just not possible, take the time to remove the driveshaft of the axle thats on the ground.

Thanks! I'm not done yet though. I'll get pictures of it in the truck, and then I still have to come up with something for the new shift pattern.

I do have to say, the 231 came apart in no time at all after I fought with the 242 for a while. The 242 did go back together easy enough, until I had to stop because of that stretched out clip.
