Default PCM swap from automatic to standard?

Does anyone know if the PCM from an automatic work with a standard transmission?

It will as long as it is for the correct engine. In other words, a V6 computer will not work in a V8. From my experience however, I believe you will lose the "safety" feature of disengaging cruise control with the clutch if you are using an auto computer.

I'm running an auto computer. Only issue is it will throw codes for missing auto stuff (not a CEL) and the shift light will not work properly, my shift light appears to come on whever a TC would go into lockup on an auto, I've just been too lazy to remove the bulb.

Im at the tail end of my auto to standard swap and the auto comp dosent work with a standard. Mine is a 92 dakota le ext cab 4x4 with the 5.2 magnum mpfi. I was a tard and dident know this when i grabed the standard and dident know to grab the comp. When i went back the truck was smushed. Just my luck. The auto comp has 7141 and the standard has 7142 on the lable. Hopes this helps you out

It does work. You likely have a park/nuetral safety that's not been taken care of.

I have heard more "does work" than "doesn't work" comments since I did my conversion but I got the M/T computer with mine so as long as I had it I used it, never tried the A/T computer since converted

Ive just taken a heavy duty mechanics course and im not some r tard. The nu/park safty switch dosent let the truck turn over when it is not grounded. And f you have cruse it has to be disconected for cruse to be able to work. MY issue is it run great. But as soon as i put it in gear is dies. Keep in mind my moter is the multi port fuel injection so that might be My problem. And from what i know about torq converters is they never realy put a real load on the moter. Just enough to achive fluidic lock up. The only way my truck will move is in 4 low. Witch had very little load on the moter due to the gearing. Im not playing yes it is or no it isent on here. Ive done my intire swap from info on this site so befor some other poor s.o.b dose the same swap. I want them to know to grabb the comp. 7142 xfor standard and 7141 for auto. My truck it done and all together and looks sweet. But is just another dodge lawn ornament until I can find another computer. I realy hope this help someone out. Or someone reads this with a spare standard comp.

Demaniuk no one here is calling you a "r tard" but could you please re type your post I had trouble reading it. Anyways as far I know you should be able to swap the pcm in a manual to a auto but I don't think there will be much gain for it. Just sit around and hang tough your pcm will eventually come. I would like to point out through my experience of swapping different pcm's in these Dakota's that I tend to find a slight different for each of them. Via being a slight difference in the idling point or a slight change of a shift point. Though don't hold that to me I am no electrical engineer or computer wiz.

What do you mean when you put it in gear, it dies? Putting a manual transmission in gear does not put any load on the motor until you let out the clutch. Auto trannys and torque converters do put a load on the motor when in gear.

This is not a computer problem, many, many people have run these OBD1 auto computers with manual transmissions.

when I did my swap I looked at a factory wiring diagram and it showed the 3 wires from the auto trans neutral switch as the 2 "outers" going to the backup light switch and actually showed the middle wire from the AT neutral switch being grounded to the body, which is exactly what I did; and for the 1st 4K miles or so my cruise worked fine then it quit; the horn quit too so I am wondering if the clockspring in the column died....

and when I say what wire went where there were 2 seperate pages marked "with Auto Trans" and "with manual trans" and I went by wire color.... my truck does not have a clutch safety on it, I had read/heard somewhere that this didnt start til 95...
