Fuel pump???
I think I may have to replace my fuel pump in my 92 Dakota, does anyone have any experience with this that can give me any pointers? I know I have to drop the tank and pull it out but I know nothing is as easy as it sounds. Just looking for tips, things to look out for, or if anyone has a walkthrough / how to pics.
Also, my problem is that about 1/3 of the time it wants to die after I let off of the gas and it runs really rough at times. I just replaced the fuel filter and it did nothing. Is there anything else I can try before just diving into the fuel pump? I don't know how to test the fuel pressure, should I do that first and how do I do that? (I know I may have some dumb questions, sorry). Thanks for the help in advance.

You can buy a 20 dollar tool at advance(or anywhere like it I assume) to test fuel pressure. There is a plastic cap on the fuel rail you can twist off and test the pressure with the key on, key off, and while its running. If it bleeds down while its off you know you either have a bad pump or a leaky injector.
The fuel pump itself isnt bad. Some think removing the bed is easier, I personally think pulling the 2 nuts off the bolts that hold the tank straps on is easier. Either way its really not all that bad. Just a little time consuming. Once you get it about half way down you can disconnect the fuel lines and electrical lines. Then theres a band that holds the assembly in. I just put a flat screwdriver on it and beat it off with a hammer. It spins in a circle and frees the assembly which then lifts out.

My fuel pump gave out on me last winter. I made this post about it. It has some good information on it. Even gives you means for a HUGE shortcut.

most time before the pump goes the fuel gauge in the dash will start to screw up.
i had a similar problem with my 89 sport and it was the egr valve. i dont know if the 92-96 have one but it might be worth checking if they do.
