axle seal or no? (4x4) Pics...
ok so ive noticed a slow leak on the front axle passenger side...
does anybody know if this is an axle seal? or something else? cause it kinda looks like the axle seal would be where it goes in closer to differential...
this leak is coming from the block area...
heres some pics...
lookin from front

and heres from straight under...

yep axle seal. easy fix heres how
unbolt the big axle nut while the truck is still on the ground
remove the 6 14mm nuts holding the axle to the flange at the diff
remove the diff cover
unbolt 8mm bolt holding the center pin in place
MAKE SURE YOU DONT BREAK IT OR YOUR GOING TO HAVE ONE HELL OF A TIME
make sure its not going to fall into the diff housing itself, its a pain to get in and out if you do.
push said axle toward the center of the truck, the C clip will fall out.
remove C clip
axle should be able to come out now, pull back and wiggle it out.
use a seal puller to remove seal,
install is reverse of removal.

That looks more to me like a leaking rear main seal than a leaking oil pan gasket, but either way, good spot! Hard to say which without looking closer at it! But you may want to go ahead and remove the entire front axle housing and pull the oil pan out and fix both at the same time.

um i have a question. that looks like the passenger side of the front axle. why is there no automatic locking hub setup on it? there should be a plate attached with vacuum lines and a fork to connect the outer axle with the intermediate axle. is that just on the 87-91?
