Default Battery overload help!

Right now I have my batter its running the ignition and lights and starter. I also have my stereo hooked up to negative and positive, and my heater is an on and off switch i installed cause the wires were all corroded it was just a quick fix until i bought a new heater core. Anyways im running all that **** off my battery, I was just wondering what you guys think i should do, because its draining my battery, if I drive around for a while then shut off my truck, then turn crank it over to start it wont, its liek there is no battery juice.

Do you think if I put a second battery in and ran my stereo and heater off that it would work?

Or is there something I can do with my stereo wires?

Also my heater doesnt work, it does but it just blows cold air, do you think I should get a new heater core and pray it works, or could it be the lines or something?

I just cant have my truck keep dying liek this. Unless the battery is pretty much done. But it is a big rig battery and its been in there for about a year, so im not really thinking i need a new one, but I want to know what you guys think I should do. I know its all easy questions, but I just want to know what you think is the best route to go.

Also with my heater, its just an on and off switch so I only have high heat or no heat, my buddy did that for me, I dont mind it but only when the heat works other wise it is loud and annoying cause everytime Im at higher speeds or rev my engine, the sound of the heater just roars, and yea its annoying lol, and right now in calgary its -30 and i hate driving to work at 6 am when it is its coldest with no heat, seriously sucks a$$.

Thanks!!!!

The ignition and starter are no issue. The heater could be a constant drain depending on how you have it wired. If you have your stereo ran straight to the battery you have a very high constant drain there.

If your heater blows cold its almsot certainly the heater core, if your temp gets up to where it should. Its a PITA to do.

If it is draining the battery while the engine is running then the alternator is not working properly. Also try flushing out the heater core.

yah, reverse flush your heater core, mine did the same thing. if that doesn,t work check under the dash to make sure the cables that run from the sliders on the front of the temp control in the dash are still attached to the doors that open and close to control the temp.
the power issue sounds like the alt. if you got a low amp nippendenso (75 amps), get rid of it . go to a junk yard like i did and get a 95 amp or bigger Chrysler, it' a perfect fit. then by a new set of brushes for 20 bucks and install them in half an hour. you'll have a better alt that should last. i could not get a kit for the nippendenso so i paid 200 for a rebuilt one couple of years before, it replaced the original but could not handle the extra lights of the trailer. so i put a chrysler 95 amp out of a 88, replced the brushes and three years later still works great.
this is for an 89 with standard belts. if yours has a serpentine belt just find one to match. if not pull the pully off with an air gun and puller and swap them, should still work.

I brought my truck in the shop today, did a test on the altenator it was fine, and it is a 75, so ya next time i go to the junkyard i will grab a better one.

My battery was swollen lol, charged it up in the shop and did a test on it and it just died, so I threw in a new battery, I didnt fix my heater as I was at work, and didnt have anytime before boss got back.

But yea i guess ill just run it back the way it was before, why buddy put a mechanical switch in, connected to my battery is beyond me. so ill just go in there and hook it back up the way it was before.

Ill just do it when theres room in the garage, the temp in calgary went up so instead of -30 today was -10 and its supposed to +3 tomorrow, so it wont be cold at all. could wear shorts!

Thanks for the replies. So if its blowing then that means its not my heater?
So the drain plug on the rad just drain it from there? Sorry that might sound liek a stupid question but i dont get what you mean about reverse ???

sounds like your alt could not keep up with the power drain, like mine. with the extra power drain my battery froze and buldged in the cold weather. replaced the battery and alt, did not have a problem since.
oh man! your in calgary (should read the full thread). i think it sucks because it's been 0 C (32f) in nova scotia. your battery definitely froze because the alt could keep it charged with the extra power drain.
my heart goes out to you dude!
