Default 3.9 won't rev past 4000

My 93 dakota runs decent but recently won't rev past 4000rpm. At first thought it was a tranny problem when pulling a trailer but when in idle you can hold it to the floor and it stays at 4000rpm. I am going to do a fuel filter but any other suggestions?

The PCM does have a Rev limiter built in. But it usually around 5,000RPM or so. But off memory I hardly go over 4,300 or so even when gunning it.

But if it is not the limiter then it may be ignition components not working correctly.

What?!?! You need to install a manual in that truck!! I can very easily carry mine up to 5600 rpm!! Could go higher but I don't want to blow up the 'ol girl.

With the MP computer I don't have a Rev limiter. I looked closer and my truck shifts at 4,500 or so. You can feel the power cuts off right there to. So its time to shift anyways. But if I wanted I could shift it manually. And you can make it shift at any RPM.

Do you have a kegger modded intake Felipe? With my intake, bored out TB, headers, no cat and FM 40 my truck still feels like its making power well into the 5k range. Its all about airflow though. I can see a factory intake not making power up there... too restricted.

Yes I Kegged it up! Ported intake, And Boarded out the Throttle body too. Open air filter, Ported heads, Headers, No cat too. 3in exhaust. Flowmaster 40. Slightly higher compression motor. Don't forget 33's 3.9 gears. And the list goes on.

Don't get me wrong it can go to 5,000RPM. But when racing when Quickness matters, around 4,5000 is when to shift for me. If it matters remember I got a 5.9. A torque monster. By up shifting at the right time I can get the motor back to the high area of torque.

Also don't forget I have an auto which uses more power from the motor then the manual does.

Thats what it is! The 5.9 peaks the horsepower curve at a much lower rpm than the 5.2. I guess the 5.2 was built to turn higher!

I wish you lived around my area so we could race! :P

**EDIT**

I remember seeing this in faq...

5.2L -> Peak HP 230 @ 4400
Peak Torque 300 @ 3200

http://dodgeram.org/tech/gas/specs/5_2v8.htm

5.9L -> Peak HP 245 @ 4000
Peak Torque 330 @ 3250
