I know the fuel gauges on these trucks are notorious for going bad because the sending unit tabs corrode. My question is, is the sending unit built into the fuel pump on the 95's? I have several websites saying they are integrated and a few saying theyre separate...I assume it's an integrated sending unit if it's anything like my 95 Intrepid...My fuel gauge is not at all accurate and spends most of its time wandering between the pegs, so it's time to get it taken care of...any help would be appreciated.
When tank is full-about 1/2 the gauge wanders at standstill and sits on E while moving. As it gets to 1/2 down to 1/4 it seems to work normally, but once it hits 1/4 tank it just stays there and doesn't move. It's really wierd...
My '95 did something similar - bounced around randomly between full and about 1/3 full, then was steady till about 1/4 full when it would just say I was on empty. Replaced the fuel pump with integrated sending unit with one from Pep Boys and haven't had any problems since.
