Default Transfer Case Oil?

vehicle- 93 Dakota 3.9l V6 4x4 auto 183k

Lately my transfer case has been making a lot of noise at high speeds and I would like to change the oil. So since I know little about transfer cases I was wondering what type oil is best for my TC?

Anything else I should know before I do my first transfer case oil change?

Thanks

ATF+4.

Very simple job... drain and refill. No filters to change or anything. The drain plug is a 30 mm.

saw the picture, try synthetic ( castrol ), your in a cold area. if the seals start to leak refill with regular atf+4, you have too much wear for synthetics.

ATF+4 is synthetic. There is no such thing as non-synthetic AFT+4.

mazda7475: Chrysler actually has a list of what fluids to use on their automatic transmissions and transfer cases. I wouldn't fool around with any other type of fluid or additive out there atf+4 is only used in Chrysler applications and anything else could cause damage.

take lo's advice on this one, don't put anything in your dodge that isn't labeled ATF+4 or synthetic. doesn't matter what the manual says. i cooked that dexron faster than o-rings in a deep fryer.
