Default M1 Intake

I’ve been thinking about putting a Mopar MI intake on my truck but I’m not sure if it would be worth it. It’s about 600.00 and would probably take close to a day to R&R it. I also haven’t been able to find any aftermarket intakes. From what I’ve read on it, it robs some bottom end power but increases top end power and the added gains may or may not be that good.
Has anyone run one of these intakes, or have any experience with them? I have a 93 Dakota, 5.9 and it does have some mods.

Nearly everyone (Lets say 99%) that mods a 5.9 runs the M1 intake. The 2bbl intake is more for the NA guys. The 4bbl intake is for the NOS and Supercharged guys.
Any loss in the lower RPM is easily made up for in the gains over 3,000 RPM.

If your engine is stock it is not worth it. But if your engine has several upgrades already or planing to then at one point it will be.

If it is stock then the Throttle body is the restricter in the system. Then you upgrade the TB then there will be another restricter. So by it self without any other modifications it is no worth it.

If yours is stock or slightly modified doing the simple "Kegger Mod" to the stock intake is easy and cheep and will increase air flow. Check the FAQ2 in this section for a link on exactly how to do it.

I run an M1 and love it. I installed it with only a 50mm TB and exhaust and yes there was a small amount of low end loss, the HS 1.7 RRs and Mopar PCM easily more than made up for the bottom end loss though. It revs all the way 5500 no problem, doesn't fall on it's face at 4500 like the kegger.

You should be able to find a used M1 for under $500 easily. Mine took about 4 hours to install including a run to the parts store.

Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like it'll be worth it for me to do it. Thanks for the link to the Hughes intake. I didn't even know they made one. It looks like its non egr and I assume I'll need an egr intake.

Damn thats a long link. That looks like the best bet to me. Keep the fuel injection and not have to mess with drilling injector holes etc...

The M1 already has injector holes. The Hughes is overpriced, overrated (on this forum) and there is no dyno proof that it performs better, the only dyno done between them claimed they performed the same, even the same torque curves. http://www.bionicdodge.com/bionic/in...p?topic=6440.0

Since they are about the same price, I agree that the M1 is the way to go since its pretty much a straight bolt on.

Anybody got a link to the m1 of which you speak? I thought they all came in carburetor trim and had to be modified for fuel injection.
