the nice thing was i got 30k miles out of them before i spun out in the rain, ripping 2 of them off the rim in the process and effing up my front end... my dad gets over 50k miles out of the tires on his 98 4x4 dakota and they still(!!!) have good enough tread on them...

I had 235/75/15's on my 96 2wd and they rubbed with the wheel locked. 225/70/15 on now work great although I think the speedo is slightly off.

You have made this a debate, when it started out as a question.

The term "rookie" under my name is an indication of how many posts I have made, not how much I know. Between me and my son, we have had 5 dakotas. The 89 is the only one I am doing mods on. IF you can be helpful, fine, but if you just want to come across as a know-it-all, don't respond to my posts.

Yeah... cause you won't believe me when I tell you that tire will fit!

Well it sounds to me like whether or not you know a lot about these trucks, you have no experience with modifying them... something I have a heck of a lot of experience with. I have a 1995 4x4 and a 1995 2wd, neither are remotely close to stock. Sorry if I have no brochures to go with my truck that list the factory options... seeing as though I was born the same year the first dakota came out. I was merely going off several tire retailer's websites saying that a 235/75/15 was a factory tire for a 2wd dakota.

But my point was, it is beside the point that that tire is or isn't a factory size... the point is it will fit with little to no modifying, especially considering the 235/65/16 is smaller!

If you don't want me to post in your thread, I won't... consider this the last time I respond to you. But if you don't want to listen to the advise given to you... don't post.

Oh, now I understand, you are only 23 and haven't learned yet that you can be wrong. When someone corrects you, you take offense first, try to learn something new later.
I put 235 width tires under a 95 2wd that I bought new, never molested, the tires "fit", but they RUB the inner fender. A 4wd dakota is 3" taller than a 2wd, so it has a 3" lift right from the factory and the 235/75/15 will fit. The short bed, standard cab in 95 had 215 width tires standard, with 235 width standard for the club cab 4wd.
225 is the max width without rubbing anything, assuming factory wheels. The Ford wheels have almost the same backspace, about 1/4" less, but are 2 1/4" wider, so pretty much ALL of the extra width is to the outside. If I have to hack my fender wells, I will not mount those wheels. Tire sellers will tell you anything it takes to get you to buy something....and even unintentionally they can be wrong.
How is a 235/65/16 smaller than the stock 215/75/15? It is .33 inches taller and .8 inch wider.. 25.4 mm to the inch, right? Here is a useful link for tire sizes.

End of story, move on.

Now I'm done posting in any of your future threads. Good luck with your build.
