Ok it was the lip that threw me . i didnt realize it covered the edge . Figured it out while was waiting for response lol. The inside of the axle where the bearing sits seems to have some caked on debris....i have cleaned it pretty good but am wondering can i use a lil bit of sandpaper to remove the remainder of the debris or will that mess with the seating of the seal? Thanks guys your input is much appreciated .

If you use sandpaper to clean it up, use something in the 220 grit range so it doesn't bite into the metal too much. Then use a small film of RTV silicone around the outside of the new seal to fill in any sandpaper scratches that are in the metal and then you should have no problems at all with it sealing!

A better idea though would be use a wire brush... they typically don't bite into the metal at all. Especially if you can find a brass one.
