Linkage question
that or t-case could be shot...does it make any noise??
And 95_318, I think he means that when you put in in 4 HI that it engages but pops out unless you hold it. My new t-case was like that after I put it in. The cause is not that the linkage is worn out, but the adjustment bolt for the bottom rod either loosened up or fell out, causing the alignment of the linkage to shift. Check the FSM for the proper procedure to adjust the linkage. Once i followed it, mine shifted fine and stays in gear.

Oh, I know what he meant... I just wanted to hear him say it. I don't like vague descriptions of problems. A lack of info doesn't help anybody.
And the proper procedure for adjusting the linkage is:
1) Loosen the bolt on the linkage
2) Put the transfer case in 4x4 - The nut that holds the shifter plate to the transfer case takes a 9/16 wrench... use the wrench to turn the shifter plate to the 4x4 position after you loosen the linkage.
3) Slide the shifter into the 4x4 position
4) Tighten the bolt on the linkage
Should take 5 minutes. If that doesn't fix it, take out and inspect the detent plunger.

Step 1) Loosen the "Swivel Lock Bolt" so that the "Shift Rod" can slide free in the "Shift Rod Adjusting Swivel"
Step 2) Turn the "Transfer Case Range Lever" with a wrench (9/16) so that the transfer case is in the 4 hi range.
Step 3) Slide the shifter into the 4 hi position, and then move it forward (toward the 2wd position) just a bit (an 1/8 to a 1/4 inch)
Step 4) Tighten the "Swivel Lock Bolt"
You're done.

Should it be in four low and is it the big bolt that hold shifter to plate
