Default Starting problem

'90 3.9l i am having problems with it starting i replaced the battery, starter and all the ingition componets(i.e. plugs wires cap and rotor ect.). when i turn the key over there is a rough click noise, its repetitive. I unhooked my battery completely and clipped the jumper cable straight to the terminal connectors (by passing the battery) and i got it to start once. Any ideas?

Welcome to DodgeForum!

By clicking noise, do you mean the same noise every starter makes when it isn't being fed enough juice to turn the motor over? Sounds like a bad battery, bad starter, or bad connection somewhere inbetween.

What size battery did you get? (cold cranking amps)
Did you clean all the battery cable terminals?

Sounds like a bad starter or bad starter connection. Check to make sure the battery wire are clean and tight, as well as the ground wire. Make sure the starter connections are nice and tight.

If the starter is just clicking and not turning. Check the wire at the lead battery connector to see if any are loose. You have a bad connection somewhere there.

Thats the solenoid not getting enough power. I do believe they recommend a 600cca battery on those.

I used a 12v battery out of a scooter(wheelchair kind) in my truck and it lasted me for over 2 years. It was a gel cell battery that my dad got from someone who redoes them. He payed $5 for those batteries. I put one in my truck and we put one in the boat. They crunk both of them just fine. I dont know what the cca's were or anything but it had a picture of a scooter on the side of it. LOL....2yrs for $5 aint to bad though.
