If you have replaced yours, where on earth did you buy it? None of the auto places around us have one and only one of them can even order it for us.

I don't want to go to the dealership if I don't have to because they want an arm and a leg for it.

Also...how much should a new one cost? I'm being told over $210...and that just seems high.

I've called our local Autozone, Advance Auto, Napa, and two other auto parts places and NONE of them carry a clockspring. Also told me that they will not order it, I have to go through a dealership.

I've looked online and the best price I can find is at moparpartz.com and that's $174.

I'm just trying to make sure I'm not being taken for a ride.

What year truck do you own?

Most ZJ Grand Cherokee's share parts with our gen Dakota's. I always check junkyards for 1st gen Dakota and Jeep ZJ models for parts.

You should be able to find one from a GC

 

I should replace mine, but I'm not going to.
I know mine is bad because the horn would come on sometimes when turning the wheel, and a few days later, the airbag light came on, and than a few days later, pieces of copper wiring popped out by the steering wheel. I immediately disconnected the airbag.

But, since all the clock spring is for is- airbag, horn, and cruise control; all things I don't need (except the horn, will mod the wiring for the horn later), I have no plans on replacing it.

 

what exactly is a clock spring

 

It is behind the steering wheel. It is a cord that winds and unwinds as you turn the wheel. It holds the wires for Horn, Cruise control, Airbag, Remote radio ect on newer models. It is call a clock spring because of the way it looks. Like a wrapped around clock spring.
