Well I sort of did. I first wanted to put those large ones on as a cheep push bar type of thing. But I thought it would look ugly with the big monsters I had gotten (just like that pic). So I skipped it. After a while I made my own push bar. So I decided to put the rubber strip from the guards on the corners on the front.

I found some low profile ones (80's Buick I think) that I installed on the rear.

LOL! Ya you should see the melted spot it left in my tire. I've bee wanting to buy some heat wrap to keep the tire safe. I guess if you think about it the rubber may catch on fire and away it all goes.

It is the only way to keep a full size spare. Due to the locker in the rear, if I get a flat the original spare could cause damage. If a rear goes I could just put the spare in front then put the front out back. But that is to much to do in some situations like on the side of a busy road or so.

I guess I'll give in and get the wrap and wrap it up thick!

Or better yet, Felipe, reroute your exhaust so that it exits in front of the rear tire. Thats what I did, but not for the same reason. I haven't had a spare tire under my Dakota in over a year. In fact I pulled out the tire winch cause I'll never have one back there.

I pulled out my tyre winch and mounted it inside the bed itself, on the passenger side. I can't be bothered to crawl around on the filthy ground should I ever need to access my spare. That's just a poor location for the spare imho.

You could also mod or fabricate a few things... First off (which would require neither) is just take the spare out, wrap it in plastic to protect it from dryrot and the sun, etc. and put it in your truck bed. Secondly you could get a tripod shaped spare tire holder like this one I saw on that show "trucks" one time that he put on that purple vehicle he called "crazy horse"-sorry couldn't find a picture. Third, you could get a roof rack and mount the spare tire there...or even to the rear of your truck behind the tailgate like jeeps do...or maybe even in the front of your truck. There's a lot of possibilities. If you made a swingout tire holder behind your tailgate like jeeps have you could get a nice tire cover for it, plus it would give you a little more offroad traction back there, our dakota's need all the rear traction weight they can get, lol.

Auron, that bumper looks like it would get the job done! What have you got on the back? Our back bumper is rotted and can't find a good one.
