Yep, go easy an use more penetrating oil, then heat, then oil...then lots of patience. You don't want to get frustrated and break that plug off...major PITA. Can you drill a hole through the top of the shield, side to side, slip a screwdriver in the hole and rock it back and forth and up? Can't remember how much room/clearance there is in there.

Whew.

Well with the help of some freeze off, pb blaster, WD40, assorted sized pry bars, flat blade scew drivers, hammers, drill, channel locks, locking plyers elbow grease and a torch, we have finally removed 1 of 2 problem heat shields.

I'm going to be honest, this WORE ME OUT. I am DREADING doing it again and I am gonna do a little more prep work and try to avoid having to do the other one.

Now I take break and drink some beer :-D

Based on some experience replacing front wheel drive wheel bearings. Brand new locking pliers and a slide hammer, from the wheel bearing hub - axle puller set, would give you the muscle needed to pull that thing out.
