My Turbo Build.
Hey all you turbo guys out there I need to brain pick you. I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with a 5.9l v8 that I would like to do a turbo application of (if possible) . Sounds simple right? Well I have 4 or 5 turbos laying around my warehouse that are slightly used off of DIESEL engines. We have done a lot of projects lately anything from upgrading turbos in our diesels to putting a cummins in a ford and having a turbo powerstroke laying around and I would like to use one of these turbos on my gas engine if I can. I have 2 stock turbos from a 7.3l powerstroke as well as a turbo from a 12 valve cummins and a turbo from a 24 valve cummins. I can use any of them for this project but I don't really know **** about turbos! Is this possible? I know u can use a diesel turbo on a gas motor but is it stupid to do? Will it just run me into cou tless problems? What mods do I need to the turbo? If done right will my gas mileage improve, stay the same or get worse!? How much is this gonna run me to have this done? Is it gonna throw idiot lights on my dashboard? Is it gonna ware my engine out even if I run low boost levels? Will my computer (pcm) freak out and make my truck not want to run? If anybody has done this or can help and you actually kno what you are talking about PLEASE HELP!
P.s. my 5.9l v8 is all stock and has 140,000 miles. All I want this for is to help out with towing (because its a slug) and hopefully improve my gas mileage (truck is lifted and big tires I get 10 mpg)
THANK YOU!
