Default 87 Dakota Build

I want to do a build thread. I just don't know wear to put it. Im putting my 57 Dodge D100 body on my 87 Dakota Chassis and upgrading the Dakota from 4cyl/5spd to 318/5spd. It is essentially a re-bodied Dakota. Does a thread like this belong here? if not, where?

You can do the write up here! I'm interested to see how it goes.

Are you changing out the transmission, rear axle, etc to handle the v8?

I have thought about doing this before too. I would like to build an old 40's-60's pickup rat rod, but putting a 318 or 360 drivetrain in it (not a re-body like you are doing) for a little more reliability, power and highway ability.

How do the wheel base's line up? wide and long?

Im not trying to put you down or anything but, why would you want to do this instead of just rebuilding the 57 as it is? Id rather keep both and put that 318 and a 727 in that dakota, and by the sounds of your other thread it seems like you allready have a sweet engine in the 57

I can't really answer for him, but I assume he wants the updated frame and suspension technology. I don't think IFS was available on trucks in '57! :P

Not sure where you got the info that the 57 already has a "sweet motor." From the info I see in this thread, we dont even know if it has a motor!

To each his own for sure, but I am not a big fan of restoring something back to origional. I favor the mods!

Also, I think this would make for a good build thread already! there is a little history in it. Just ask one of the mods to change the title of the thread for you.
