Do some searching its been done before. Most go the 5.9 magnum route.

Your best bet to get a cheap Hemi is to search Craigslist in your local area or call a few Junk Yards, or search online for the junk yards in your area and see if they have one. I can find Hemi's around my area for about $1,200 all day. But you will also need to get the wiring harness and PCM from that vehicle too. It's a big job, but I'll tell you well worth it, to many tires burned up, to much gas spent, and sounds SICK going down the road lmao.

welcome to dodgeforum!

just like everyone else said, the cheapest place to get one is a local junkyard or craigslist.
as a matter of fact some one just sold one by me for $500.

I don't know where you live but the cheapest I can find one here is 1800 and that's out of a burned truck. Any one find one for 500 to 800 let me know and I'll take off work to come get it.

its hard to find them. by the time i found that one it had already been sold, otherwise i would have bought it in a heartbeat. just keep looking around. if your truck is older than 96' then you would also have to swap out the wiring for the obdII wiring. unless its an old carb'd hemi from and old mopar.

I found 2 in another city for about 2 grand. A piece. Does dash have to be changed and what else do I have to do to convert to drive by wire. ?

there is a thing that was designed for converting the drive by wire to the old style cable, i don't remember where to find it though. and depending on the year of your truck you would have to convert everything over to obdii because all the sensors are electronic on the hemi and trans. if you have a 96' dakota you won't have to worry about this because it is already obdii with all the electronic sensors. and for the transmission one from a 4.7l dakota should work since in the research i've done they are the same except for the programmed 5th gear(2nd passing gear) which will show up with the hemi pcm.

i am thinking about doing this same swap. i wanted to do it with the pre 91' models since i like the body style so much but i don't think the hemi would fit at all.
