Exclamation just need a little help

hello i have a 96 dakota 3.9 4x4 slt i need to know what Transmission will work with my truck or wher i can get a complte rebuld kit for the 42 re thx bobby

Like you said you have a 42RE. The 96-up will work. I'm not 100% that all 42RE's will work due to some may have different spline count ect. The closer to your year the better.

As far as a rebuild kit I would say Napa. www.Napaonline.com

The 42RE 4 speed automatic transmission was used in 1993.5 to present Jeep Grand Cherokees with 4.0L engines is this ture and if so can i use it on my truck ?

Spines are the grooves on the on shaft where the slip yoke connects. If needed get the new transmission slip yoke.

I doubt it did at least not till 96. Even if it did it wont work. You will need one off the same engine as yours. Ram, Vans, Dakota will work. 96-up. Check this list. Also all the info you need is in the FAQ in this section.

Also you can call up a transmission shop and ask.
