Default about to do 3.9-5.9 swap, some questions

just picked up a cheap 5.9 out of a wrecked 00 dakota rt, 80k kms, came with engine harness and auto transmission. i will be parting the auto transmission, so if anyone close by is in need of one message me.

ive read thru the faq's everything seems pretty basic, i do have some questions though.

my truck is a 94 3.9l 5spd 4x4, i will upgrade the trans later or if i find a good deal on one before the swap i will. but for time being i will reuse it, i know i need the 5.9l flywheel, will my pressure plate bolt up to the flywheel or do i need the 5.2 or 5.9l pressure plate? and if so do i use the clutch disc of the same pressure plate? if so what year should i be looking for? ram or dakota?

i know i will either have to modify or find a v8 throttle cable for my year truck, now for time being can i swap the v6 tb to the v8 intake? if not anyone selling a v8 throttle cable, lol

pcm wise, i know i need a 94/95 v8 dakota pcm, or one out of a ram. now for the ram pcm, does it matter if its for an auto or manual? 2wd or 4wd? 1500 or 2500? if i go for a performance pcm, any suggestions?

anything i should take care of before the motor goes in other then the mounts?

all input is welcome. thanks.

The transmission will not last long behind the V8. They didn't put it with the V8's for a reason.

The V6 Throttle body will bolt on to the V8 but it will restrict it. Try swapping out the shaft or the linkage in between the two if needed. What ever PCM you can get will work, a manual would be best so your shift light will still work and 4wd would be best.

A Mopar High Performance PCM will be best all together.

As for the pressure plate question Check with 95_318SLT, he is the manual transmission guy.

thanks for your reply

im aware it wont last very long, but then again i dont bag on the truck. im mainly doing the swap because it was cheap and its a dog when going up hills etc. what transmission should i be looking for if upgrading? dakota only or will ram ones work?

worst case ill swap the v6 tb on then till i find the tb cable.

so other then the shift light the auto 5.9 pcm will work? does it have to be a 4x4 pcm? will the 2500 ram ones work as well? i think jegs carries the mopar pcms, other then that any other sources that your aware of? (other then the dealer).

im sitting on the fence if i want to do upgrades before installing or just do a budget swap and install it. ie: intake, cam, headers pcm etc....

The NV3500 from a Dodge will work, Dakota, Van, Ram.
The auto trans PCM will put out Check Engine Lights codes, other then that it will be fine. A 2500 should work, you may want to find out if the pins are the same as the 1500/Dakotas.

The best place for the Mopar HP PCM is www.summitracing.com

Awesome thanks I'll check out summit. May be simpler to just buy a new PCM vs risking a used eBay one.

Oh also forgot one more question regarding the v8 transmission. Will I need the driveshaft as well and any issues with transfer case etc?

I'm not to sure if the V6 and V8 transmissions are the same length. But go ahead and get the donor drive shaft and just compare it to yours and see.

Btw checked summit, seems for the 94/95 ram 5.9 the mopar performance PCMs are for auto only.
