Default Learning to rebuild engine?

I was wondering if any one knows where I can get a good guide/tutorial on how to rebuild an engine like V6 and V8s? Nothings wrong with my Dakota engine but in the event that I need to clean and rebuild one of my engines I wold like to learn. So far I taught myself to do a lot of mechanic work by reading and watching videos and usually I'm successful with my projects. But I want to take my skill to whole another level and that is by rebuilding an engine.

Any good books or websites that can tell me and isn't there a guide on this forum on how to rebuild engines?

Thanks

The best book will be the service manual. It is in the FAQ and you can download it. And it is specific to our trucks.

There is also a pretty good book called How to Rebuild your Mopar Magnum V8. I have it and it has helped me. Goes into a little bit of explanation as to why you do certain things. With that and the FSM you can't go wrong.

+1 to that book its good gives several performance tips, interchangeability of parts, and tons of specs. It was actually written by an engineer at chrylser that helped design the Magnum engine I believe.

Thanks, I just bought that book since it was only 6 dollars and hopefully it will help. I might go to the junk yard and see if I can get a Magnum V8 and do a practice rebuild.

Oh and thank you crazy4x4 I forgot about the service manual download page.

It should be noted that the machinist will pull a plug under the main cap that redirects the oil. This plug must be replaced if you do a total rebuild. It is something that I had from another book (Mopar strokers), but I have that book as well. It is a good read and has some sheets to copy to keep track.

Hi,
I'm new to the forum and just bought a 92 4x4. I looked in the FAQ for the service manual, but could not find it. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

(Later)
Found it!!!

yes,

It's a good book very detailed, describing what each part does on the engine, and nice clear photos. I definitely recommend the book to anybody who wants to learn about the magnum V8.

Thanks again for the link
