Wink Wifey is fuel concious.

Ok ill admit a defective fuel guage is a problem but from past Dak experience I figure Im safe to run 150 miles and refil checkthe mileage aND go again. Wifie says ask the guys fuel tank size 4x4 v-8 94 truck. Since running out of fuel is her worry can anyone give me the scoop? She has also suggested finding a good hump and hit it bout 50 go airborn and then the fuel guage will work. I handed her the keys.

LOL hit a hump... Are you sure its the gauge and not the sending unit on the pump?

...I swear that some days its seems like there is a hole in my fuel tank, the truck can be a fuel pig! lol

There are 2 sizes of tanks. 22 Gal. and 15 Gal. The 15 gallon tank is rectangular shape. The 22 has a long lip on the front, it is like a L shape.

I've got the 22 gal. I usually go to about 175 miles and fill up. I think I can hit 250, but since my fuel gauge is out I'd rather not try.

OK 15 gallon is a place to start. I will go 100 miles and check. Wifie has already found the repairs to tank sending unit. This will get done someday but right now tires are more important.

Somewhere in another post someone pointed out that your tank capacity is stamped on the bottom of your tank...22 or 15. My old 93 LE 4X4 Dak with 5.2 V8 gets about 13 to 14 mpg in town so I can get 220 or so miles before I hit the fuel pumps. I have to use the odometer as a gauge as my fuel gauge still doesn't work even after installing a new pump, cleaning the sender contacts, etc. Not hard to do, just have to remember to reset the odometer when you get gas. On the up side, even with 180K plus on the truck, it still gets 19 mpg down the road at highway speed...not bad for a 17 year old 4X4 with auto tranny.

Thanks for an idea on what to expect on fuel mileage. Two Dakotas back was a 2004 4x4 mag. v-8. It got about the same and of was newer smoother and much nicer looking. It actually could get 22 with the gate down on the interstate. Im going to make a new thread on that one.

Should've noted in my post that the old 93 Dak has new plug wires, plugs, dist. cap & rotor, a couple cans of Seafoam through the tank, and no cat...runs like a top, idles around 700 in N, and sips gas on the highway at 68 mph and the tach at 1750-1800 rpm. Wish it would get 15 mpg in town, but not complaining. mpg can be inaccurate unless you compensate for tire size...I run 235X75X15LTs on my truck, so I have to adjust the odometer mileage by about .0425 % if I want accurate mpg reading when I get gas...tires are larger than the stock configuration.
