The socket is best. But a few others have use an adjustable wrench or a pipe wrench. When you buy the new Joint you can see if you have a large enough one. Make sure and spray some extra WD on it. And use a large bar to the wrench to use as a cheater if needed.
Both dad and gdad were wrenches. Next door neighbor was the same all believed in heating any suspension part prior to working on it to break the rust bond. That tip many years ago plus the WD-40 makes the job go much smoother. Crazy has an excellent point also, my longest cheater pipe is about 8 ft. long,
