I believe there is a factory manual for our truck in the faq. I had mine go on me, replaced it and had no problems since. It is possible to have a short in the wiring that is killing your pump. Is your tank and fuel filter clean?

So your having your fuel pump and sending unit dying? That is really weird. It sounds to me like a wiring issue. Bad ground or connection somewhere? What fuel do you run in your truck?

Personally, I think you have a break in the line somewhere. Did you do a continuity check?

Has it always shown 1/8th? and do you know for sure if your floater fell off or not in the tank? If not I would agree, you have a electrical issue.
