93 Dakota Wont Fire
Okay I need help. Was driving down road and engine shut off and would not restart. Checked and im getting fuel. so I checked and no spark at plug. Then after a few test I see im not getting power to coil. Changed coil, still no fire. Replaced Distributor cap and rotor, pick up coil in distributor, crank position sensor and still no fire. Rotor turns when attempting to crank so timing chain and distributor ok right? Everything comes on and engine turns over just not cranking. Checked all fuses under dash and under hood. looked at connections to fuse box and sensors all looked good. have done a quick glance at wires under hood cant see any that look broke or burnt, oh and I also done the code check by turning on and off 3 times it flashed a 12 and 55 which means just that power had been disconnected and end of codes right? Help please only vehicle......
If you weren't getting spark at your ign coil, then replacing all the components after it wouldn't help.
Check your splices, swap relays, check grounds, etc. The fact that you're getting a check engine light is good.

Yeah I know just replaced the cap and rotor because they looked bad. Someone told me that the pick up coil could be part of the problem. Relays? I'm not much of a mechanic as you prop can tell. The three connectors of the wires coming out of the fuse box under hood looked clean and good
Could be - the pick up coil tells the ign coil when to fire.
Relays are in the Power Distribution Center - that black box that you called the fuse box. Swap them around, see if anything changes.
Fuel and spark power come from the same relay and splice (ASD relay), so eventually begin tracing your wiring from the ign coil to the notorious splice.
Check that your computer ground is good - 2 big black cables running to the back of the passenger head.
Check your battery and alternator ground - run to front of driver head (bolted into power steering bracket).

how do I test the Pick up Coil with an OHM meter? Someone told me its possible that the new one I installed was bad also. Your thoughts .... would a bad pick up coil cause my problem?
someone said it could be the ignition switch... it will turn engine over, could it do that and still be bad??? anyone .....

if you take out the Power Distribution Center under the hood, you will find a huge mess of wires all connected to one right under the PDC. its a splice thats known to corrode and go bad. it kills the power to the auto shutdown relay which cause the engine to not produce any spark. take those wires apart, clean them up, reconnect them, and then try to turn it over. all the while having the battery disconnected obviously. if you need more information, look in the FAQ section of this forum.
