I have seen this countless times. First off, the clutch fan has less maintenance requirement, and lower impact of said maintenance costs. Secondly, while you may get a few extra ponies, it is not all the time. When your electric fan initially kicks on, there is a draw on the battery which, in turn, puts a load on the battery that requires extra drag via the alternator. So yes, and no. For even a light build, I would recommend the clutch fan until you get serious enough to want to squeeze every ounce. Unless your really really bored and want to do something, but I am sure you have allready swapped exhaust, heads, cam, intake, gears etc. I would not recommend it on a street duty vehicle.
