What year is your Dakota? You'll have a much better chance of getting an answer in the subsection for that generation. I'd recommend asking there or if you want you can post the year and I'll move this thread to the right section for you.

Ok, Exxcon got in contact with me, it's a 96 with the 2.5l and a manual transmission so I'm moving this into 1st Gen Dakota. Any ideas guys?

There are O2 mock up sensors to full the computer to believe it is working without it.

I say just repair it. There is a free downloadable Factory Service Manual in the FAQ in this section in the stickies, just a few posts above this one. It includes wiring diagrams for the 96 year.

i've bypassed sensors before by seeing what they ohm test at to be "good" in the repair manual then buying little resisters to fool them into reading good even if they are not plugged in

It used to be a dummy 02 sensor would work, but good luck finding someone who will sell you one state side, the EPA has put the clamps on people making and distributing dummy 02 sensors, we used to get them through BBK for mustangs and they told us they had to stop selling them cause the EPA was threatening legal action to the tune of $10million and this was even selling to Canadian companies!

A company out of Ontario called Vibrant Performance that make 02 simulators which is pretty much the same thing, they are designed to prevent CEL from being thrown. But with a 1996 your going to be running OBDII and removing your 02 sensors will probably throw your ECU into an open loop and you run the risk of running rich or lean as the ECU will not compensate for an incorrect AFR.

You can also just build one for about $8, if that. The computer is just looking for a reference resistance from the O2 sensor. There are several free wiring diagrams online for reference, but I agree with the others in that you should just fix it the right way, the first time.

You cannot bypass the pre-cat O2 sensor, your engine needs this. The post-cat O2 sensor can be bypassed.
