Transmission/Transfer case Preparation

For the transfer case, there are two plugs (bolts) on the back of the case. They are big, like, 32MM I believe. Make sure you get the fill plug off before taking off the drain one. Want to make sure you can refill it!
That will get most of the old fluid out of the transfer case.
For the transmission, most of the fluid is actually not stored in the pan. The whole transmission, including internal, the lines, etc. holds somewhere in the way of 11-13 quarts, and the pan only hold about 4 quarts of that.
Most of the fluid is stored in the torque converter.
It's been several years since I did my transmission change, but I want to say that due to the physical design of the torque converter, just taking it off and holding it upside down will not get all the fluid out.
Most people would recommend just replacing the torque converter anyways, and I can say it's probably not a bad idea.
Why do you have these off anyways?

especially since the case broke, replace the converter.as was sated, you cant get all the fluid out, that means there could be trash in the converter.and also, parts stores sell cans of cooler line flush, its aerosol, get a cpl cans, when you do the swap.leave the lines connected to the radiator, hook the flush into one of the lines,on the tranny end, pump it through, til it runs clear out of the other line.have seen many rebuilt trannies fail shortly after, because of cooler lines and torque converters.
