Exclamation Help! Bolt threads in Steering Knuckle Stripped

I was doing a brake change. I went to undo the last bolt (two per side/caliper) and the bolt backed out taking the rusty threads with it. Now my truck is not mobile and really need to fix this! I only have one caliper pin bolt that will thread on the passenger side knuckle.

What are my options? Not sure if I can trust a heli-coil when it comes to brake threading.

Okay so far I have found some info...

My options look like...

1. Self tapping over-sized pins
2. Heli Coil (sounds safe?)
3. Replace knuckle at over $400

Im going to call NAPA and Lordco to see if they have the self tapping over-sized caliper pins. Also will bring a pin in with me...
Anyone know the size and threads?

Apparently this is a really common problem.

The oversized pins work well, they are expensive though IIRC around $15/piece.

Thanks for the info festerw. $15 is a lot cheaper than a $400 knuckle. I will let you know if I can get them and how it goes. Any tricks to them? Torque spec?

Not really any tricks, should be NAPA BK6751539 and you'll need a 3/8 allen socket to put it in if I remember right to around 25ft-lbs.

You got it. The Over-sized is the best option. Autozone had them. I can't recall how much but $10 or so not bad.

Heli Coil is good and safe but more work than need unless it is last resort.

or you could weld it, and drill and tap.

Update:

Went to NAPA and got the oversize self tapping caliper bolt. (Part number 675-1539) The price came to $40 with tax.

Worked great! Turned the steering so I could get my head in-behind the knuckle to make sure the hole was lining up. Everything was lining up so I put the blue Loctite on that it came with and threaded it in nice and snug. Was REALLY careful not to over tighten. I didn't have a torque wrench but it says to tighten to around 25 ft/lbs I do believe.

Success! Thanks guys! Another crisis diverted LOL

Yea, I had the same issue.
I ended up using a Heli-Coil (which required an odd-ball size drill bit, had to special order it thru Snap-On).
