Exhaust bar none. Then intake, camshaft,TB, headwork in that order.

What kind of exhaust?
Cat back? True duals? True duals with headers and high flow cat? Where do you find headers for these trucks? Any bolt on dual exhausts?

online, unless u look at summit there actually pretty cheap only a hundred bucks or so.. brand isnt important, metal is metal, just make sure their length for all the clyinders are the same thats where ur power comes in because of the smooth flow.

The 89' engine isn't worth dumping alot of money into, so be conservative. I would think that a magnum 3.9l swap would be more worthwhile. As far as exhaust, looking at the factory bends and all, you would want a catback that is mandrel bent, with a muffler that you like. A V6 will never sound choppy so go for tone.

throw a 3 inch exhaust on it (pretty sure my 89 3.9 has a 2.5), larger bore throttlebody and spacer, port the heads and centerdome, K&N low restriction air filter and if your lucky enough to live in an area that doesn't require a cat converter trash it, that makes a big difference.
just some general ideas but it all adds up.
check the exhaust manifold where it bends around the tranny pan, that's a nasty turn and the pipe is flattened a bit (at least on mine). just cut it out and insert a larger pipe that doesn't have a flat spot.

i wouldnt go 3" cuz when you go too big u lose HP due to you have no backpressure exaust HP gains are do to a smooth flow. Jus sayin.. If you dont have the HP already dont go 3in cuz itd be a waste 2.5 should be plenty cuz the engine only does about 125-130 stock and its a 6 cly..
