This diagram will work for LA's and Magnums. It rotates clockwise.

As for the angle of the distributer no it doesn't have to be like that, just as long as #1 on the distributer cap is on #1.

the setting for an adjustible 3.9 (87-91) is 10 degrees before top dead center (btc)
timing light is cheap at any parts store saltys, there not used anymore except on older rigs.
call me a man from the past but i like to adjust my own timing and mixture on a rig. nothing like a good ear.
i took my truck for a front alignment twice (on a computer) and it pulled to the right slightly both times (yes i was right in there with them and they got it right). i did it myself by eye and it ran straight.

well im like you i only like older vehicles cuz i hate electronics, and im an electronics technician... go figure right.... lol, but i cant afford a $40 light that i will only use once, ill correct with the dizzy to clean up the throttle. it only backfired like twice, an that was when i reved it up, (backfire out the carb that is) so ill jus spin till i get it right... i used to have a dwell meter which would have also helped in this matter but a "friend" never returned it... hes no longer a friend now lol. but yea i like the old ways, the newer cars have too much junk that isnt nessicary and it pisses me off, besides ive found that most parts for the first gen dak are dirt cheap, and i LOVE mopar, always have, so ill stick with it till i get it right
