Question 93 318ci 5.2l 2wd auto. expansion valve leak...

93 318ci 5.2l 2wd auto.
expansion valve leak from the top expansion valve infront of spark plug #1. its behind the power steering.

i can see a stream of water coming from the valve towards the PS pump when looking from the top while filling the radiator.

i would like to know how i can take off the expansion plug and how to put the new one in. what are the steps to remove the powersteering bracket/belt. i have some expansion plugs in my truck and a room full of tools. i love my but i guess my 19ft Dusky is stressing her out lol. i live in south Florida, what should i fill the radiator with after? thanks a BUNCH!!

I'm assuming your talking about the Freeze Plugs on the block, where the coolant flows behind. If so it can be a pain depending on how much room you got around it. To remove the belt loosen the tensioner and remove the belt. Then unbolt the power steering box. Very simple.

You just have to rip it out. Hammer a screwdriver in it and pry it out ect. Just don't scratch the sides. It can be a PIA to do. Good luck.

Default Got a good look.

Well I called a buddy of mine that owns the shop by my house. He said to take it on by. I managed to get the belt and power steering off. The plug looks very corroded so I'd rather leave it to the pro's. I love this truck too much to mess it up. I wish I could post the piks up from my iPhone that would be cool. Thanks alot. After he gets the new part in I will put some good radiator fluid and hopefully it won't leak . And a new belt while I'm at it.

Btw, how can I get the part that goes on the steering column to get rid of my steering wheel play? Some say to get it welded at a machine shop. What should I do?

One thing I forgot to say, if one is rusted/bad then most likely the others are too. Soon enough another one may go. It is always to replace ALL when doing it. But not that easy to do.

Thumbs up got'r'done!

yea many have been replaced, this one was hidden till the pressure bursted through. it "was" a manageable leak lol.

i basically got a bolt with a flat end, grasped it with a pressure clamp and hammered it on the bottom lip, top lip popped out and i just pulled it off.

then used wood to hammer in the new one [got it at NAPA] and the same pressure clamp/screw and hammer combo to push it in about 1/4".

i ran it with water & all looks good, just wanted to know what dodges use as coolant?

thanks guys.

Use the aluminum safe type (Pink) to reduce galvanization, or install a sacrificial diode in the radiator cap.
