Default 3.9 to 5.9 swap ?s

hello all,
i am new to the site as a member but use it all the time. i get great info just by reading others' posts. that being said i have a 94 dakota 4x4 3.9 and for a motor and tranny swap a 94 ram (5.9 4x4)
1. Can i use the wiring harness from the ram (just plug and go)
2. Will i have to cut the driveshaft? - as far as i know i think i have the 42rh and he probably has the 46rh ( i heard they were the same lengths
and help would be greatly appreciated thankss - waggin

*** also the ram (donor truck) came with 42rh 46rh and 47rh that year- just incase that may serve a problem with length. and my dakota does have the 42rh - just verified the vin # with the dealer if any of that helps

Wiring will be close, you should be able to just add in the 2 injector wires you need and the transmission temp. sensor, that should be all. Use the 5.9 computer.

The engine will drop right in transmission too. I'm not to sure on the driveshaft though. There are a few 3.9 to 5.2 swap write ups in the FAQ2 in this section, just a few posts above this one.

thanks CrazyRT, i am not so much worried about the wiring I've been reading a lot on that. The only thing i cant find out is the different lengths in the transmissions, and if this truck has a posi rear end I'd like to use it but idk if would be too big. i will keep looking though I think i'v read almost everything i can find on the tranny question.

The 46rh and 47rh are about 1/2" longer than the 42rh.

Yes you can use most of your V6 wiring and use most of the sensors. Just add the 2 injector wires like I stated in the first post. The FAQ in this section, just a few posts above this one has the service manual with all the wiring diagrams you can handle.
