Do an Auburn Gear LSD, I had one in my 2nd Gen Ram and currently have one in my 3rd Gen. They work like they should, hooks up when you need it and you don't even know you have it when you don't.

Oh and $500 is ridiculous to install a LSD. My local shop charges $600 for an Auburn LSD with installation and the unit is about $450 of that price...
Lockers are totally streetable, I've done at least 70,000 miles of daily driving with lockers. I will say the Powertrax No-Slip can be a PITA if you don't absolutly baby it, I took mine apart and removed the synchros so it acts like a Powertrax Lock-Right now and it's much better. I like lockers because there is no BS, it locks both tires when I put my foot down, period.

I had a set of Detroit Lockers in a Furd diesel 4x4 I had in the mid '90s and they would ratchet in every sharp turn. If I was towing my bass boat, the turn wouldn't even have to be that sharp.
The ones I had in the first of my two Wranglers weren't as bad, but you still knew they were in there.

Neither were my daily driver, and I'm not saying I wouldn't do a locker again, just not in a daily driver.

Now a selectable locker I'd do in a heartbeat, but nobody does one for an AAM 9.25" rear. If the Vari-Loks in the front & rear of my Grand Cherokee go, I fully plan on replacing them with selectables, not that I'm displeased with the Vari-Loks, but I could do selectables in both axles, an onboard compressor and a tank big enough for other tasks as well for just the price of doing ONE AXLE with the Vari-Loks.

I've had Auburns in both of my Rams and they lock up pretty good, the bias in the pro series is pretty damn high, won't lock like a true locker, but damn near and they perform 100% like an open diff around turns with good traction...

Supposedly the old Detroits were pretty rough, I know the newer ones are pretty nice. Selectable would be great in the front, but I wouldn't want one in the rear because you're basically stuck with an open diff on the street and that just doesn't work for me, the truck has too little traction as it is. Granted for most of what I use my Dak for, an LSD would be just fine. I'll never have an LSD in an off-road rig though. And honestly an auto locker up front works great as well, even in the snow.
