You do know that modern vehicles can go 10k on standard oil, the oil isn't the problem, it's the filter. 4K on synthetic, waste of money, unless racing is involved. Most vehicles today have an owners manual that says 6k or 7k between oil changes.

I did have an issue with an oil change place, there is a reason I have two new differentials, and they paid for it. $3k to fix them both, I do not go to that place any more. I have never had an issue with Jiffy Lube, but I don't go there. I go to a place that has good reviews for the area, specifically fleet vehicles.

You have to be 18 to work at an oil change place. Also, since when is Castrol GTX "cheap oil"?

Actually oil is the problem. Conventional oil breaks down quick.
What kind of filter do they use then?
I don't have a problem with Castrol GTX, it's what I run in my car. And I don't like the fact that it's a BP product, but it's been ran in my car since day one so I stick with it. Every jiffy lube I've ever seen uses penzoil, and that is cheap oil.
We are in the 1st gen dakota forum, so I didn't think we were discussing modern cars, but Honda's have recommended 6k on oil changes since the the early 80's and maybe even in the 70's but I haven't owned a first gen civic yet to say for sure. I still change it at least every 3k. Always with lucas.
4k miles on royal purple isn't a waste of money to me. It's only 40 bucks an oil change, and that's including a WIX filter. New cars are a waste of money IMO.

I will never push more than 5k miles, and that is with the best filter Advance Auto sells, and full synthetic oil. I am changing what brand i am using this time, though, since i started out with a cheap *** brand, quaker state. I am going with Mobil 1 because i saw a really awesome commercial, plus i have a $7 rebate form...
In my opinion, you can never really change the oil too often. It is quite possibly the most vital thing keeping your engine running, and i want to take care of my engine. Knowing my luck, the one time i push 7k, it would get damaged. I just hit 5k today, but dont get paid til friday, so i am going to end up with 5,160 miles on this change.
