Need help with my 93 dakota 4x4

You may need to change yokes on the differentials if u joints are smaller or bigger. I encountered this last night

Alright.i.thought the out put shaft was a different size

Mike, not too sure about the '93 being one of a kind? If you find one, just match it up to your old one as close as you can.

i have just finaaly got mine totally running and only thing left for me is to get electric speed sensor as the 90 was still cable driven otherwise it run fine. so you should be good to go with any NP231D transfer case out of another dakota

A guy kocally said he will sekl me a 94 case I forgot if that work but im thinking if I just buy.the.drive shaft from him I dont.need to change anything. Im pulling the case today. It is not snowing woot woot

Default problem solving?

So, before i pull the case off, i got it started yesterday. It will not drive in gear like D or R but once it is in 4wd it will drive. It will also not go back into park once the engine is running. i can not tell if the front is working but i know the back is driving. Also smoke starts to come by the transmission if it is ran for a bit. Obviously this is not good so i have not tired again.

Is the transmission bad also, how will i be able to tell?

Will there be pieces of things in the trans oil?

Crawl under near front of transmission pan and look at bell housing and dipstick area the input seal might be leaking or cooler line

alright so i have it off but i cant find any at junk yard, if i pull one off a jeep or chevy and switch parts would that work? has anyone ever did that

No other manufactures parts wont work. If you want to rebuild it Napa sells the Rebuild kits for $200, less then a used transmission. The service manual in the FAQ shows how to rebuild it.

I mean the transfer case not the trans can it still not work
