Default Need help with my 93 dakota 4x4

So i just inherited a not drivable dodge dakota 4x4 5.2L v8. The engine starts and runs pretty good. The problem is in the transfer case. It has a straight up hole. The truck right now also will not drive, im assuming it is becasue of the transfer case, but i am not certain. I want to make sure the transmission is not bad also has 224k on it.

I am new to the hole 4x4 drive and do not know much about the transfer cases of the dakotas. I called my dealer and they said they did not have any for sale, and the 93 was only made one year.

I want to know if i should just buy a used 93 transfer case. Or maybe try with a 92 dakota transfer case so this problem does not happen again. Someone told me a 241d or something off a ram can fit the internals of the 93 transfer case, i believe it is called a np231-d. But again i am not sure.

I can upload a picture of the case, but to me it seems the chain is not broken. I seriously am clueless on what to do. But im hoping i can find out.

just because the chain isnt broken doent mean there isnt something wrong with gearing inside of the case. is that seriously the whole??? if your going to get a new transfercase and want it to match the one your taking out then check out some online websites.
