No way. More rust=Less weight! Better MPG! Sucks to be all of you with a minty Dakota :P
Haha I am from Winnipeg I know allll about it
Really though I was talking to a friend and he was talking some conspiracy stuff like usual saying that the Dakotas were purposefully made to have bad MPG so that they would not compete with the full size trucks.
Everyone would rather go buy the more expensive full size because the MPG were ****ty for the size of truck. I am pretty sure it is all in the transmission. Anyone here wanna play guinea pig and put in a different transmission?

LOL I still never believe anyone who SAYS they get above 15mpg on any size V8. Everyone claims they get 17 or 18 or 20mpg on a V8. LOL Heck a lot of 4cly or small V6's are rated at 18-20.

I say be happy with 15-16MPG, that is more than a lot of V6's get.

Although it was touched on a little in the last few posts, bigger tires on stock gears will through off HP and MPG as well as the speedo and mileage if not corrected. Even if it is 1-2mph off it is still is off as well as the mileage.

I sure the Ram with 33's and 20MPG didn't regear the axle as well as the speedo gear.

Also remember these engines are running on 20 year old technology, which MPG were not factored into the engineering designs.

Yes a bad O2 sensor could affect the MPG as well as a bad Coolant Temp sensor and leaky fuel injectors Map senors thousands of things. If you want to improve MPG keep you foot off of the gas and never go above 1,500rpms.

+1 to crazy. If you stay off the throttle, you can make your mpgs go up. There was an episode of Extreme 4x4 on Spike that they tested a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 with 35's and were able to get the MPGs up from 9 to 16. It was a three step process from removing the mechanical fan clutch and installing an electric fan, removing excess crap from inside the vehicle (i.e. books, clothes and other stuff and add the weight), adding a front axle disconnect to remove the strain of the front drivetrain being driven when in 2wd and a couple of other things. You can look it up by going to www.powerblocktv.com and looking up the Extreme 4x4 section.

hey believe what you want, but it's pretty rude to say we don't know what we're talking about or are to imply we're lying . I record my mileage with every fill-up. Sorry if your results are different! :P

idk if you are talking to me or not but. I wasn't implying anyone was lying just stating facts. the ram may not of been the best example but the rango was for sure a solid example.

On a side note i am going to try a few things like a k&n (possibly a home brew cold air) and the 02 sensor, maybe a throttle body spacer, some exhaust work ect all things i had on my ram that seemed to help.

Air filter and TB spacer wont do anything.

Look at the stock intake, it IS a cold air intake.

My 93 3.9 4X4 with 235 75 15 tires gets 17mpg hwy, 11mpg in town. My tach sits right on 1,600 rpms @ 50mph. 1,800 @ 55mph. It slows down real fast when I let off the gas. If it "free-wheeled" more, I'll know I'd get better mpgs!

I tried last night on the way home. Unless my truck is geared differently, it doesnt start moving until like 1300 rpms and wont even up shift until like 2000. It might be possible to drive like an old @$$ and keep it under 2000rpms, but definitely not 1500.
