94 5.2l 5spd bad mpg's!!!!!

Have you checked for codes? That's some seriously bad mpg. You could drive around a fully loaded old a$$ motorhome and get better gas mileage. There's something wrong somewhere, and it's just a matter of tracking it down.
FYI, some punctuation would help to read your posts too. Might start a new thread on the subject. You'll have better luck figuring this thing out.

you guys talking bad gas mileage try this i put 74 dollars in my 94 dakota and managed a measly 148 kms on close to a full tank not a good return works out to just over 2kms to the litre pretty sure MPG works out worse. i have put all new ignition components in and also replaced the torque contverter and oil pump and input seal in transmission and the only way i got the mileage was making the auto transmission shift when i shifted it and using OD when over 60kmh
Do not go by the gauge, at all, ever. Fill up, drive at least 100 miles, fill up again, fuel economy=distance driven/amount of fuel used, I'm betting it's not nearly as bad as you think it is.

94 Dakota
I've owned my 94 dakota 5.2L 4x4 for 8 years now, I have a 4" body lift on it with 31" off road tires.
On a good tank watching every inch of throttle, I've never had better than 15.2 mpg. Once, my milage got really bad milage <11mpg, and it ended up being the O2 sensor. If you feel it should get better than it is you could try checking the O2 sensor.

well i put 5 gallons of fuel in the truck and drove it till it died and it got 38.9 miles on 5 gals so that workd out to 7.6 mph and prior to that on 5 gals of fuel i only got 3.9 mpg and the only difference is i ended up putting a chunk of cardboard in front of the rad because i had truck running for 20minutes and could still barehanded hold on to the upper rad hose .

Was the tank empty when you put the 5 gallons in?
That's not a real accurate way to check your mileage. Fill it up, set the trip, then drive however much you want, then fill it back up and divide the miles you drove by how many gallons it took to fill it back up. This is the most accurate way to check mpg, without buying any fancy gadgets.
Also, don't top off the tank and always fuel at the same pump.

well i have got the truck to get a constitent 8MPG after dropping in a set of autolite3923 plugs and did the complete timing from crankshaft and camshaft to place distributor and using scan tool to set the sync for injectors . still have the occasional pop out exhaust . but still can not get truck to go over 300rpms it cuts in and out like a a rev limiter . also if i am driving down the highway and punch it all goes silent and then let off and it comes right back. it almost sounds like you shut truck. any ideas would be great love the truck but it is driving my nuts.

If your getting that bad of gas mileage then your truck is dumping to much fuel into the engine wich will cause you not to be able to give it any throttle or it will flood its self out. Try concentrating on the components the adjust your air/fuel ratio (throttle position sensor, intake air temperature sensor, coolant temp sensor if it has 2 of them, oxygen sensor, map sensor). You can test pretty much all the sensors with a digital multi meter. The test procedure can be found in a Haynes manual or through the downloadable service manual in the FAQs section
