Default 4X4 low sticks

Hey, guys im looking for some help with my 93 dakota 4X4 5.2L Automatic. The 4X4 shifter tends to stick in low, what could be causeing this? Also the trans seams to not want to shift right for a while after i take it out of 4WD. Any help would be awsome.

The shifter adjustment may be off. There is an adjuster linkage on the transfercase side of shifter.

Also try shifting it into and out of 4Low with the transmission in neutral and get a little roll 1-3mph to get an easy shift.

No it wouldn't but check your fluid level and maybe your TV cable needs to be adjusted.

Agreed. I can't shift out of 4low unless it's in neutral and rolling at 2 or 3 mph like Crazy4x4RT said.
Sometimes I have to drive in reverse a few feet, then shut off the engine to get it back into 2wd.

on a side note make sure you tcase fluid is full. note sure if yours is the same as mine but where the speedo sensor goes in the tcase theres a oring and if it goes bad over time it can leak almost all your fluid out. most people dont bother looking under thier vehicle for years on end and can run dry on fluid.

+1 You can't depend on previous owners to take care of your truck the way you would.
I replaced the output shaft seals on mine today because I was seeing a slight leak, which was an eyesore more than anything else. But the dork who owned it before didn't use gasket maker properly. The input bearing retainer had no gasket maker 1/8" around the mating surface like it should be, it was just spread around the outside of the sealing surface, and the transfer case to transmission adapter mounting surface had zero gasket maker, just a bead of jb weld around the outside of the tcase and tranny meeting.

I also cleaned the crud out of and around the shift linkage mechanism at the tcase and it shifts in and out of 4wd low much easier.

Hey thanks guys going in reverse worked really well im gonna slide under tomorrow and clean and crud from around the linkage. Adjusting the TV cable helped my shifting but its still not perfect. The trany has plenty of fluid. Is there a vacuum line that goes down there that could be lose.
