Dixie Dakota!?
I'm looking into paint schemes for my 88' Dakota, and I think I've found one! Always wanted a fire engine red truck but I'm thinking the General Lee orange is a bit more suitable, although I want a flat black front end & hood/cowl. Unsure whether I should have the side mirrors painted orange as well or keep the flat black offset, orange might look cleaner.

I want the turbine wheels like on the A-Team van! I have 5 lug hubs but I'm not sure what these originally came on?? There are several variations but I want this particular spacing in 14" or 15"

Hood should be orange to match, IMO. Also, Just my opinion, but I like when all the trim, bumpers, mirrors, everything is color matched to the body:

If you want a 2 tone paint scheme, you need to make your own paint transitions based on a body line, not change colors at a panel seam. Changing colors at a body panel seam is an amateur way of getting out of a paint job easy.
forgive my poor, quick MS Paint skills..... But the dakota hood has a great set of body lines to follow if you want the top to be black. Then follow the lines across the cowl and onto the roof as well. Makes for a much more custom, nicer quality paint job.

The black hood thing came from the ricers and carbon fiber hoods. although QUALITY black top paint schemes have been around for years. But notice how they change colors at body lines, not panel seams.

Hmm, you have a really good point and this is something I will have to take into serious consideration. You see what I was modeling is this truck here:

When looking at the front head on the entire front appears to be black until you turn. I am 50/50 on painting the mirrors to match it was just the offset black what I was considering, that way it brings some black further into the body; contrast. What I think this paint scheme has going for it is the boxy illusion, if the bumper and grille are black they blend together giving off a square look (including the hood). I do like the orange hood sides though, I will have to see what it looks like with the cowl induction first.

LOL! Talking about this reminds me of what I saw on the news. A modern Dodge Charger General Lee led police on a car chase.

You could almost do that Cuda top black on a body line of the Dakota almost perfect.
It would make your paint or no paint mirrors a bigger decision, but if you followed the body line just after the roll on the fender, that line goes right back under the window and then turns up and disappears. Almost just like the cuda.
The truck you posted as your idea, with its classic mopar themes, you could really stick with the classic Mopar if you did something like this.

This makes the truck look wider, I like it! ...now about those mirrors...
What do you consider classic Mopar theme?

I say go for the dixie look, since its a dodge it has common ancestory with the General Lee with the charger. Or you can do the dakota in two tone with the upper half being black. What type of black are you thinking of doing, matte or something.
