What I meant by extras is the 4x4, power windows, stuff like that. Not much rust, clean engine area, etc. I think means a lot. It should serve you well.

Cool. I didn't know what was standard and what wasn't in these trucks. I'm guessing LE was "Limited Edition". Perhaps that's why it has the extra features?

I might take a battery with me when I go to get the truck. It would be a lot easier to drive it on the car trailer then trying to back the trailer where it is and winching it up.

The weekend can't come soon enough!

check the owners or service manual for towing procedures on your particular truck. some vehicles need the drive lines disconnected depending how far your going. otherwise it can burn up your transfer case bearings. i learned the hard way once on a ford. seized the bearing to the ouput shaft

I'm pretty sure I can set the 4x4 to N and the transmission to N as well to pull it on the roll back right? If not using a roll back should the same method apply? Do I have it completely wrong?

Anyone that has this truck if you can shed some light I'm picking it up tomorrow morning if all goes as planned.

Thanks,
Jeremy

you wont need to do anything special if your putting it on a rollback tow truck. i was refering to if you tow it down the road with a rope. i havent read the owners manual of my dakota yet but on some vehicles even if you put the trans and tcase in N you will still burn out the bearings because theres a oil pump in the tcase and it doesnt pump unless the engine and tranny are spinning, thats why it would be necesarry to unhook the drive shaft so the rear output shaft doesnt spin. make sense ? like i said, im not sure on your exact truck the correct towing procedure. check your owners manual to avoid a costly mistake. if your using the roll back then disregard what ive said because it wont apply

Hey guys. Got the truck home. It actually started up and ran. Turns out something must have happened to the ignition and I found a push button start. There was a 1/8 tank of gas in it. I put some water remover in and put 4 gallon in it. She started right up. It ran a little rough. Found a bad plug and regapped it. Ran better but I'm going to put all new 6 plugs in it and hope it's cleaned up.

The transmission move in and out of all gears. I put more fluid in it as it was low and it seems to shift a little better. I don't think it shifts bad. I didn't really get on it to see if it might be when it downshifts. But upshifting seems fine to me.

The main thing I see that's bad is the frame has some issues. Picture attached. The other bad part of rust is on the bed. Which isn't that bad.

Please tell me though....it seems to be stuck in 4wd? The 4WD light is on and I tried to spin in some loose gravel and it felt like the front end had a good bite on it. I saw an adjuster and messed with it a bit but doesnt' seem like it will go into 2WH.

Thoughts on this please?

All feedback welcome!

Other photos!

I'll get some better images once I get the tranny, motor, and 2wh worked out. I'll then clean it up inside and out.

EDIT

-------------

Sorry can't post the frame photo or the rust photo as I guess I'm over my attachment limit?

i think the service manual can be dloaded from the FAQ section. it will help tremendously. looks like a nice project you have. only advice i would give is use common sense when diagnosing problems. jack up the tires and see if its really stuck in 4x4 and figure out why. maybe the linkage is missing, bent, broke, needs adjusted etc etc.

Some feedback here.

The truck seems to have a slight miss. I replaced all the plugs, rotor button, and dizzy cap. Still the same. My old man tells me perhaps a burnt valve.

Nevertheless I took the truck up on the mountain today. I got to a steep part and the truck was indeed in 2WH although the 4WD light is on. Put it to 4WH and she climbed right up. So the 2WH works but the damn light is stuck on. This bugs the heck out of me. Anyone have any insight?

Also the transmission shifts fine for me. I did add about a quart and a half of fluid and it still needs another quart. It's right at the add mark now. But if shifts in all 4 gears fine and the kick down to 3rd works flawlessly. I'm not too sure what problem he was seeing unless it just needed fluid.

There is some fluid on what seem to be the bell housing. Not sure if it's oil or tranny Fluid. I parked it at a clean spot at the driveway so I'll see in a day or 2 if anything is on the ground.

Everything on the truck seems to work. All the power options. However the AC isn't working but that's fine by me. I'd rather it work but can take it or leave it.

Any insight anyone can give me on this will be wonderful!
