Daily driver/ fuel eco-box need help
well my parents are bitching about gas so i need to get my truck to where it makes as good as possible MPG. what can i do to get around 25mpg from my truck. im planing a manual trans swap and a muffler delete. My exhaust runs out behind the cab right onto the tire do you think that taking the muffler out will cause to much heat to be on the tire. so what else can i do for MPG

thats funny you say that because my mom has a 2004 salsa red prius with 178,000 miles on it bought it brand new in 03 and running great at 56mpg average. that's the reason they dont like the 16-18mpg my truck gets. but performance would be alright because i dont like to dick around in my vehicles too much so it might help. What are the first ones i should do look in the back ground

my dad got 22 from his longbed 3.9 powered A500 Dak with 3.54's in the ***. dropping the gears to 3.23 or so would help alot but hinder acceleration a slight bit. Deleting your muffler will probably hurt the economy, if anything run a catless exhaust with a decent muffler, make sure it's a little larger than stock for free flow. maybe putting a different tube to feed the engine a little cooler air wouldn't hurt either, along with a TB spacer

a LOT of work, for little gain....
TB spacers do NOT work, waste of money...LSD won't improve gas mileage....
driving technique will work.....I can take almost any of my friend's cars and get better mileage, just by how I drive...
But, you do what you want....just putting in my 3 nickels...

yeah you can make anything if you have the tools and equipment to make it. but if you dont have a machine shop in your back yard the i wouldnt attempt it. plus you will have as much in material than if you just bought one. me personally i think they work to a certain point. i can tell a difference in throttle responce but thats it. there designed to make the air coming into the intake flow more smoothly without the turbulance. dont take this the wrong way but if you want performance do a 5.2 or 5.9 swap. if you want great fuel mileage the do a 4 bangger swap. there is no such thing as alot of performance and great gas mileage on our trucks. for example my truck is a weekend warrior and im all about performance and how fast i can make my truck but at the same time i could care less about gas mileage. but thats just me. if i was in your shoes i would do a aftermarket air filter cleaner, complete tune-up, change all filters and pcv, change all fluids, and if there is no emission laws where you are then cut the cat and run a good quality muffler. also if you cut the cat and you have a downstream o2 sensor you will have to install a o2 sensor simulator to turn the check engine light off cause with the CEL on you will be running in safe mode wich means your engine will be running rich and wasting gas. hope this helps you make a choice as what you want vs what you need.
