lighting problems
since the only thing left to do on my truck is paint and the lights, i've been trying to figure out why hte lights still dont work. i traced all the wires from switch to the sockets and only found some corrosion which i fixed and still no power, even with a brand new headlight switch.
turn signals work, though they still have that bad connection at the fuse panel(if i pull the fuse out a tiny bit they work for a long time), all the fuses under the dash are good and all the fuse in the box under the hood are good and there is no corosion anymore. i fixed all the ground wires and even ran new ground wires.
so basically as a refresher the headlights/brake lights/dash lights/running,marker lights dont work.
only other option i see would be to rewire the headlights. would i be able to run a cheap switch from an auto store work or would that f**k something else up?

I wish I could help more but all I could suggest is that maybe the older years had a 2nd set of fuses like the newer years. Check those if so. We do have a 90 or is it 91 wiring diagram.
Do you have power at the fuse for the headlights?

i don't know where the second fuse would be. i used to have power at the switch but no i dont and now if i jump the wires from the battery at the connector the headlights dont come on anymore.
Well sounds like the only thing you can do in hopes of finding the problem is o get the wiring diagram and start from the very beginning of the wiring checking it all the way back to the bulb socket with a meter. Start with the power wires first. If you find that you have power all the way to the bulb socket then you have to check the grounds all the way to the bulb sockets. If the power and grounds are good than its either a bad bulb or bulb socket. When u check it make sure to check every connection along the way. Disconnect each connection and make sure the connections are good. To me it sounds like a bad switch not allowing power to any of the lights.
Im looking at the wire diagram in my Haynes manual and it shows a fusible link between the battery and the input side to fuse 5 wich is the fuse for the headlight switch. The fusible link in the diagram is showing it to be a gray 18 guage wire. It connected to the main positive battery wire and connects to the red 12 guage wire that goes to the head light switch, and fuse 5,6,7,and 8. Im not sure where it is located on the truck but i almost bet that its blown. Hope this helps and wish i could help more.

thanks for the info. i just went through all the wiring again and found the problem. there was a corroded wire that finally broke off. i had previously gone through all the wiring thinking i cleaned all the corrosion but this wire must have broken off when i reconnected the connector. on the connector on the firewall it was on the engine side of that connector where all the wires run through(the block next to the booster. when i pulled the tape away from the wires all the corrosion fell out and as soon as i removed the rubber cap for that block the wire came off. so i reran the wires through another hole in the firewall(techincally i cut another wire by accident which was not as badbut getting there nd the factory foglight wiring was removed too) a low and behold they worked. still have a little issue with the tail lights being delayed but everything works now.
Red with a white strip on it. I still have the issue of the tail lights not turning on all the time but aparrently the brake lights are wire through the switch because mine where out till I fixed the wire
