Default Electric Fan Help Quick

Im installing a jeep grand cherokee electric fan onto my 95 5.2 dakota. Well this eve I took the clutch and fan off the truck. I pulled the shroud out and slid the cherokee fan down onto the radiator. The Cherokee fan actually sticks out farther then the fan housing on the front towards the radiator so it can not be mounted flush with the radiator. I drilled 3 holes into the stock shroud and used zip ties to hold the fan in place just to see how it would work mounting the fan to my stock shroud. Well there is a problem, the back of the fan motor in the center sticks out to far and it hits the threaded stub on the water pump. So for that to work I will have to cut the stub off the water pump.the pulley was pressed on the pump when they made it so my question is. If I cut the stub off the water pump whats the chances of my pulley flying off the shaft? With just the fan up against the radiator the is only 1/8th to 1/4 inch of space between the end of the stub on the water pump and the back of the motor for the fan. I really need some advice about cutting off the stub of the water pump cause I will start back on it in the morning.

A few others who have done an electric fan swap cut off the threaded boss, they claim no problems.

For me I rather not take the chance I cut off the large nut and placed it back on the threaded boss. I rather have safety on my side. I had to cut a section out of my electric fan shroud to clear the nut.

Post up plenty of pictures.

I've changed two water pumps on my Dakota & a few others with a fan clutch. Every one I've changed the pulley was bolted on not pressed. They're cheaper without a pulley just use your old one. When you say "Hub" if your meaning the threaded shaft I don't think it would be critical to cut it flush with the pulley, because the pulley doesn't thread on to the actual shaft, there is a bracket behind it. Pictures are worth a thousand words. If it is actually "pressed on" couldn't you find a thinner nut then the thick fan clutch one & cut it flush with that? I would like to see how much clearance you need.

Well the original water pump had the pulley bolted to it but when it went bad and I bought a new one from autozone the pulley was already on the new one and the bolt holes are there but there is nothing behind the pulley so there for im certain the pulley was pressed on when the pump was made. I actually still have the original water pump pulley that I had unbolted from the original water pump. I will take plenty pictures and post them but it will probably be tomorrow before I have time to do it.

When I did my electric fans, I choose to use dual.
This way the motors were on the side and in the center they were only like and inch or so thick. Worked out good.

Apparently I don't have a photo of them in the truck though. The issue that I had with this setup though was that I used bad material as braces to keep the fans off of the rad and a bolt ended up rubbing threw a few of the fins and created a leak.
These are not the finished photos, just fitup.

Well I wasnt able to get the Cherokee fan installed because it was just to thick and didn't feel comfortable cutting off the threaded shaft of the water pump. I went to the loca yard and looked for a hhr but they had none. So I ended up just ordering one and it should be here sometime next week and ill install it then. The hhr fan looks to be the best option for converting the Dakota to a electric fan.

I used a dual fan from an early 00's maxima. Worked fin for a while till one of the fans seized. It's width of the radiator and its shallow. Other than the one fan siezing I had a little rubbing from the power steering which didn't bother me as much because it only happened when i was smashing hondas...
