Want to buy a 98 Durango with a 5.9 motor. It has the correct serial number but is there any way we could tell the 5.9 from the 5.2 just by looking at it? Thanks, Roy

 

No there is not an easy way to tell. The best way is by the VIN and engine block casting numbers.

 

On my '98 5.9 block "360" was actually next to the casting number. At least what I think is the casting number.

Should be a vacuum diagram under hood, it will read 5.2 or 5.9.

Bought a 5.9 motor last night and started the job of cleaning it up today. Checked the casting number out and AZ360 it is the exact same number you posted back in June when we were asking how to tell the actual size of the motor.

 

Just the motor or a vehicle WITH the motor? I'm asking because you originally wanted a Durango with a 5.9. If it's just the motor what are you going to put it in?

The Durango deal fell through and just got this motor, it came out of a 4x4 pickup. We have a '76 Cordoba with a tired LA 360 in it but we already have a 518 trans in it so we are going to try to put the Magnum motor in it and switch it to carb. Would like to run fuel inject but dont have the "college of knowledge" lol
