Timing issue again
Changed my cam gear (had broken teeth) now cant get my timing right.I set #1 cylinder to TDC on compression stroke and set distributor to #1 on the cap but still runs like crap.I've reset everything over n over to the diagram in my repair manual but can't get it right. Also have a new cam sensor.I'm lost now.It will start right up but runs like it is 180 out. What am I doing wrong?
Have a new cam sensor fuel pressure is good and pulled the cover last week and chain is good. I also set the timing while the chain cover was off and my cam and crankshaft marks align up. Yes JR your right about the distributor but,I had to replace the cam gear (oil pump gear)so needed to reset the distributor. It still needs to fire from #1 on the cap.
Crazy,I see you mentioned a bad coil.Would a bad coil really make it run like this? I've had them go bad on other vehicles but they wouldn't start. My truck starts right up(most times)or 3-4 cranks will start.

Did the timing chain come off while the engine was running? If so you probably have a few bent valves from the pistons hitting them while they were still open. Happened on my old 1982 toyota pickup.
Chain never jumped.I reset timing with the cover off and marks lined up.Could someone show me a pic of a "spark controller"..
