If you just want a little more get up and go I'd start with the rear gears, bump it up a number/down a ration (3.21 to 3.55 to 3.91). There's some good info here:

then if your just looking for get up and go a few bolt ons will be both cost efficiant and easy to get i would start the little things like air intake TB spacer also check and see if MSD makes anything for that motor like a coil and or ignition box also i you do exhaust go just a little bit bigger and try and find a high flow cat it will breath better, my stock muffler was rotted out so i took a cherry bomb glass pack a friend gave me and threw it on without even checking the cat and that was a little noticable differance in both gas and power. not much but a little bit. (i have the v8 though) and also see if some one like hypertech makes a performance chip foor yout computer ebay has hundreds of them that are listed for our truck and there anywere from $10-$250 (dont know if they acually work though worth a shot) thats really all i can think o for now

If your towing with that truck I think everyone would agree for getting your transmission beefed up a little bit...the a-500 doesn't hold up too well.. My old man kinda beat mine and im honestly suprised my bumper didnt rip off when he pulled a 6,000lb cement mixer trailer with it...I do know the trans didn't like it..at all >.< Hence why at 212k miles it slips like crazy anymore.

As far as headers go I think there is something in the FAQ about headers for the v6 but honestly there isnt really a whole lot you can do to get a noticable gain in power. the exhuast you will feel a difference in the throttle responce and about 1-3 more mpg's, but aside form that it doesnt make a big difference seeing as i have done it myself. A tb spacer will only get you maybe 5-7hp more if that.

Db
Do not use the performance computer for towing
Do the v8 swap
If you do the headers, TB etc etc on the 6 you will end up with much less torque than a stock 360
If you do a cam on the v6 you will end up with much less low end
then you need a looser converter and gears
Will not be able to tow out of it's own way or do mud except as a banzai
The only cost effective upgrade on a V6 is a v8 throttle body
I'd put in a late model chevy before I spent any money on a v6
It might weigh about the same as your V6
