Got it fixed. On the four cylinder you just pop the little black cover off the bell housing and point the light at it. It worked easy enough. Truck is running normal now. Thanks for the help.

on the pre-96 2.5l you're able to advance/retard the timing without wrecking anything. the point would be to gain a little more out of the motor. though i don't know how well that would work with the trucks pcm. if you did i would try one out of a fwd mopar.

Well I know before I timed it right it was at about 6 degrees before TDC and misfiring like crazy and bogging out at random times. So the stock PCM does NOT like the timing to be changed at all. I tried the distributor in several positions and the only place it would run steady and not misfire was when it was timed perfectly sad to say. I do notice now though that the truck has lost a bit of power now that it is timed correctly so that's not a plus, but atleast it isn't misfiring any longer.

iirc running a fwd mopar 2.5l pcm you can go a max of 12btdc(stock)and get a great increase in power. i'm actually considering dropping my spare 2.5l in my truck and running that(its going into my project). if it wasnt for the v6 pcm in my truck it'd be in already.

as for parts for the pre-96 2.5l check out and fwd turbo mopar parts site and everthing should bolt right up.

Well the stock timing is 12 BTDC on the 2.5L atleast thats what the sticker calls for on the hood. Thats what I set it at, but I noticed last night I was really romping on it to see what it would do and it wasn't as slow as I first thought, I just drive it easy I guess haha but I noticed its still got a little bit of the misfire in it, and I can see the needle on the battery charge gauge moving a little bit back and forth. Not sure if that is normal. So the 2.5L turbos are the same motor, just mine doesn't have the turbo? I just know I have the pre AMC motor and its been a bitch so far to learn anything performance wise, I would like to turbo it eventually as it is a strong motor and only has 140xxx on it. My father took great care of it.

AMC Motor bottom end is VERY strong
1/2 in main bolts- etc
did they put a turbo on the AMC?
WE made over 1000 hp on 50 lbs boost- twin turbos - alcohol .010 over 199 inch
AMC 6
stock crank, carillo rods, Hemi Pins
fwd performance appears to be for the Chrysler 4 cyl not the AMC????

If I could just find out which parts I can use on my motor all would be well lol but nobody makes anything for this motor and the few things I have found are obviously not going to work (like on ebay or my usual performance sites)

if you think of any more performance sites for these motors let me know!
